Puddle of Mudd's Wes Scantlin is never in the news for music lately. Always trouble! He was making headlines when his neighbors called the bomb squad on him. Last year, he was also wanted for no-showing a court appearance. after being arrested on April 30 in Hermosa Beach, CA for an outstanding warrant. This happened just one month after his band walked out on him for erratic behavior and two months after cops showed up in SWAT gear to arrest him.
Scantlin is back in the news after Puddle of Mudd, who are astonishingly still being booked in bars and clubs across the country, decided to go off on a little rant after the band's gig this past Saturday, March 4th, at Phase 2 in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Rock Feed reports Puddle of Mudd was 'performing their hit single “Blurry”, Scantlin launched into a bizarre, impromptu performance of what sounded like “Through Glass” by Stone Sour. Scantlin awkwardly posed with his guitarist, who seemed uncomfortable, for nearly a minute during the rambling mash-up.'
Scantlin then went off on a rant, seemingly off the top of his head, discussing late Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, who he accidentally identified as being a part of Stone Sour. He also attempted to pay tribute to late Drowning Pool vocalist Dave Williams, while not being able to actually remember Williams' name:
“Stone Sour I love you guys. I love you. You guys are great. Kinda magical. Those dudes are cool. God bless Paul. God bless your soul Paul. I should have been there for you dawg. I shoulda been there for you dawg.
“I’m gonna miss Paul from Slipknot. I’m gonna miss the lead singer of Drowning Pool [the band’s late frontman Dave Williams] for the rest of my life.
“We need to keep our eyes on these people man. I’m losing a lot of friends. Let the bodies hit the floor.”
Here's video of the incident cued up to the point where Scantlin begins the rant:
Scantlin is clearly in a bad state himself, no where near sober. I have no idea why Puddle of Mudd is still booking shows, let alone why clubs trust the band to show up. You have to wonder what the mindset of his band members has to be, having to travel with this dude while he is clearly not on a sober head.
