Many might say that the "Nintendocore" genre, if it can even be considered a genre, is a passing fad. Those people clearly didn't see Powerglove last Monday in New York City. This was my first time seeing the band and they have made a fan out of me.

The band came out dressed in what seemed like a cross between the Legion of Doom shoulder pads and GWAR outfits. The drummer even had banners attached to his shoulder which constantly moved with his rhythms. The band then proceeded to shred through many video game classics including the themes from Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Bros, Tetris and some old school kid show themes as well including the Transformers and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

Some might judge the band as being too gimmicky, but to me, the only gimmick the band seems to perpetuate is a good time. That's all they are about. The crowd was in the palm of their hands and they ran around the stage shredding the melodies that formed my youth. You could not resist having a smile on your face. Also, the band are an incredibly tight set of musicians. If you see the band is playing in your town, and are looking for a good time, make sure to check them out!

The band is currently on tour with Sonata Arctica and Mutiny Within. Dates available on their MySpace page.
