It is with immense sadness that I report that legendary actor Sid Haig has passed away at the age of 80. Sid, of course, was known most recently for his part as Captain Spaulding in the recent Rob Zombie horror trilogy of The Devil’s Rejects, House Of 1000 Corpses and 3 From Hell.
The horror icon passed away this past Saturday, September 21st, according to a post from his wife, Suzie.
“On Saturday, September 21, 2019, my light, my heart, my true love, my King, the other half of my soul, Sidney, passed from this realm on to the next,” reads the statement.
“He has returned to the Universe, a shining star in her heavens. He was my angel, my husband, my best friend and always will be. He adored his family, his friends and his fans. This came as a shock to all of us.
“We, as a family, are asking that our privacy and time to mourn be respected.
“Goodnight, my love. We will find each other again, next time. I love you.”
Sid's final onscreen performance was in 3 From Hell, which was released limitedly last week.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to Sid's family and friends.
Update: Rob Zombie chimed in with a very touching tribute, saying:
On this sad you got to remember the good times. This photo was taken the first time me and Sid got together. It was early 2000 or perhaps even late 1999. It was at the Edith Head Costume building at Universal Studios. We were both having a good laugh at this crummy, ill-fitting clown suit. It took a few tries to get his look right, but we got there. Who knew that crazy clown would become an iconic horror figure? Certainly not the two guys in the picture.
