Opeth are continuing to celebrate their now 20 year existence by releasing live footage and audio from their incredible performance at London's famed Royal Albert Hall earlier this year (5th April to be precise) that had the Brits reeling with rabid appreciation.
In Live Concert at the Albert Hall will be available to fans on the 21st September this year. The recording stretches for almost three hours and comprises of two sets, the first of which is a performance of Blackwater Park in its entirety and the second a chronological selection of material that covers their entire nine album career.
Frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt described the evening thusly:
Opeth had a magical night playing the Royal Albert Hall. It was a dream come true, and now afterwards, it still feels like a dream. We got it all on film, and this, our third live recording and DVD might be my personal favorite. One couldn't help to think of all the fantastic artists that played there over the years. Looking back at this night of celebration brings me fond memories of our 20th anniversary—this package is the delayed birthday present. Enjoy!
The longevity of this unique band is testament to the sheer beauty of their sound as they combine progressive elements, quiet bits and some really fucking loud bits, to produce something that has withstood the test of time and acquired a diverse fanbase that can only be seen to be believed.
If you do decide to invest in Opeth's latest release, then you can expect a limited edition vinyl box set packed full of artwork, photos, even more music or a 5 disc set with bonus bits and extra footage of the night, or you can just stick with a bog standard two disc set which only has a measly two CDs in it.
