Deftones' drummer Abe Cunningham recently said he thinks the band's long-awaited new album is coming "hopefully, maybe September. I heard something. I can’t remember." Now vocalist Chino Moreno has backed up Cunningham's guess in an interview with Primus drummer Tim Alexander's Herb’s Happy Hour.
Moreno said the record is finished as of "maybe a month ago" and the band has all the final mixes. "It’s supposed to come out in I think September," he added. The new record will be Deftones' first in four years.
There seems to be more than just a new record on the horizon for Deftones. Cunningham also recently said the band is considering releasing the long-awaited "lost" album Eros as maybe an EP, saying "we have to get into all the legalities of it and all that stuff and also we have to finish it." Deftones is also working on a remix album of White Pony named Black Stallion.
"We’re gonna be releasing later in the year a reissue of the record and we’re going to do sort of a split side of the record, a remixed version of it titled Black Stallion," said Moreno. "So we have a bunch of different people on it, some that actually inspired some of the writing of the record itself, the original album. So it’s kind of come full circle."
