Down is working on their first release since 2014's Down IV, Pt. 2 and it's all "obscure" covers, according to guitarist and vocalist Kirk Windstein. In an interview with The Rock Savages, Windstein said Down doesn't "wanna do the obvious shit" like Black Sabbath and instead will be picking some odd stuff.
"'Cause we like fucking around with different stuff, and we're influenced by so many different styles. We've just gotta agree on six songs to do. We don't wanna do the obvious shit — we don't wanna do Black Sabbath and stuff like that — so we're trying to find some obscure stuff that fits our style."
Windstein added the band has talked some of the tracks for the EP, but they're still working on it.
"Yes and no. The more we talk about it, the more it changes. So there's, like, 30 songs that have been mentioned. So, we'll see. But I'm looking forward to working on that. It should be a good time."
Down is currently Windstein (Crowbar), guitarists and vocalists Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity) and Phil Anselmo (Scour, ex-Pantera), bassist Patrick Bruders (Saint Vitus, ex-Crowbar, ex-Goatwhore), and drummer Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod, ex-Corrosion of Conformity, ex-Crowbar).
