Grip Inc. was a band between 1993 and 2006 and featured a few notable musicians, though mainly it was Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer, Philm, etc.) and multi-instrumentalist Waldemar Sorychta (Enemies of the Sun, ex-Despair, etc.). While the group still isn't exactly back together, there's a new EP of previously unheard material on the horizon. The release will be a tribute to late Grip Inc. frontman Gus Chambers. Speaking of the tribute, Lombardo said:
"Grip Inc. is an exceptional band that I am very honored to have co-created.
"Gus Chambers was easily one of the most effective and distinctive vocalists/frontmen in the business. To be able to release music that pays tribute to Gus and his talent, memorializing the unique sound that the four of us created is a gift… not just to us, but also to the fans that always hoped for more."
"Gus can't be replaced. Grip Inc. will never be Grip Inc. without him. We could try and replace him, but it would never be the same as the original four. This is the closest thing we have to working with Gus again. This release is without question a tribute to his talent and his legacy."
According to a press release, the EP titled Hostage to Heaven features three unheard tracks and an alternate version of "Hostage to Heaven" off the Power of Inner Strength record. it's currently up for pre-order digitally, the only format the EP is available in, and will be out Jun. 9.
