GWAR have just completed a massive amount of touring, as documented by our "Eye of Oderus" video series, all in tribute to their fallen guitarist Cory Smoot, aka Flattus Maximus. The band has retired the character, sending him into outerspace forever. The band performed as a four-piece on the tribute tour, but are looking to once again expand to five. Now the band have issued an update on their next guitarist and the future of the band.
“Faced with the daunting task of finding a new Scumdog who can match the standard of excellence the band demands, GWAR has activated certain contingency plans, and the process that will hopefully lead to a new and hellish alignment with some kind of hideous creature, one capable of slaying thousands with JUST ONE NOTE. Needless to say, auditions are not ‘open.’”
The band is currently writing and recording in an in-house studio. While the band is keeping a low profile this summer, they do have some shows lined up:
6/9: New York, NY @ Irving Plaza (Zombie Prom)
6/15: Providence, RI @ Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel
6/16: Montebello, QC @ Montebello Marina (D-TOX Rockfest)
6/17: London, ON @ London Concert Theater
The band have also announced the third annual GWAR-BQ. While details are still pending, it'll all go down in Richmond, VA on August 18. MORE GWAR PLZ! [via Metal Insider]
