H.R. Giger is a name synonymous with the metal aesthetic. Just hearing his name will often conjure dark images you have seen, cherished, and maybe even had tattoo’d on yourself. Although his name and work speak volumes, not many of us actually know about the life and trials of the late artist. That’s what Dark Star: H.R. Giger’s World plans to change. It’s a documentary that paints an intimate portrait of the artist’s life, and it opens in US/CAN theaters next week.
The film includes many interviews with people who worked with the artist through out his life including Thomas Gabriel Fischer of Celtic Frost / Triptykon fame. It also shares previously unseen work, including the inside of his home and all the many strange things inside of it. Color me interested! The film will appear in select theaters beginning May 15th, and available through VOD August 18th with a DVD release following.
