Weekly Injection

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From INVERLOCH, OCEANS OF SLUMBER and More Out Today – 3/4

This edition includes lots of doom actually, like, lots of doom…and other stuff. To the metals…

Beseech – My Darkness, Darkness 81+gsHsLE7L._SL1200_

Genre: Gothic metal
Origin: Borås, Sweden
Label: Despotz

I fully expected this band to sound like another Nightwish-clone, and was pleasantly surprised. Instead, I'd put them on a playlist with Type O Negative, To/Die/For, Paradise Lost and your doomier goth bands. Pretty cool actually.

Hacktivist – Outside The Box71DsEU+r68L._SL1200_

Genre: Djent/rap metal
Origin: Milton Keynes, England
Label: Rise

It's weird, I fully expected to hate this. It's certainly not for me, but they're the modern equivalent to Linkin Park (who I loved in middle school so maybe that's the target demographic) and I see why people dig it. The music is a bit over shadowed by the vocals, but there are some sweet melodies and solid rhythms if you listen for them.

Inverloch – Distance Collapsed 91bLMSZtqjL._SL1500_

Genre: Doom/death metal
Origin: Melbourne, Australia
Label: Relapse

Buy now on Amazon.com

Fucking hell. This has already been a great year for doom. This week's addition to the ever-expanding pool of these slower releases is the fairly erratic Inverloch. Their vocals are way down in the mix and it better showcases the musicianship, which is phenomenal. Their doom/death metal blend is perfect as to not allow the listener to get bored of either.

Oceans Of Slumber – Winter 635902438522076877

Genre: Progressive/doom
Origin: Houston, Texas
Label: Century Media

Buy now on Amazon.com

This band will hopefully make waves. Their almost like if Agalloch was a female-fronted outfit. The result is powerful, haunting, gorgeous, and fucking great. I can't say that I've heard this combination before, and it kills.

Sabaton – Heroes On Tour DVD/CD 91JcCmURW8L._SL1500_

Genre: Heavy metal
Origin: Falun, Sweden
Label: Nuclear Blast

You can finally bring Sweden's war obsessed power metal titans into your home and watch them without fear of getting hit by their fire cannons. Get your armor on and your fist in the air as you pretend to mosh with the crowd from home. This is available in several formats (blueray, vinyl, cd, etc) and features two sets from Wacken Open Air and Sabaton Open Air. Epicness with options.

Wolvserpent – Aporia:Kāla:Ananta EP 81ibPYksJVL._SL1500_

Genre: Drone/Doom Metal
Origin: Boise, Idaho
Label: Relapse

Buy now on Amazon.com

Lets conclude this week in a weird dark place. This EP is one forty minute song that sees the duo of Wolvserpent dabbling with beautiful folk metal, dissonant drone, soul shattering doom, and even moments of everything at once. The track is a hell of a ride, and a frankly a daunting commitment, but totally worth it. It opened new doors to a band I wasn't familiar with before.
