The last Weekly Injection of the year includes and new and upcoming heavy metal releases from noisy legends, progressive off-shoots, fun heaviness, and more! To the metals…
Boris with Merzbow – 2R0I2P0
Genre: Noise/drone
Origin: Tokyo, Japan
Label: Relapse
On their seventh release of the year Boris are once again joining forces with Merzbow for their eighth collaboration together. As expected, this is a feedback laden and noisy. This includes some new takes on songs from Boris's Love & Evol. This is a solid send off for this year as the gang bids 2020 an RIP. Kevin has a full review right here.
Silent Skies – Satellites
Genre: Atmospheric/progressive
Origin: Gothenburg, Sweden/Cleveland, Ohio
Label: AFM
I felt kind of bad for this release. It's dropping right around the time Evergrey announced a new album so it's being overlooked by some of their fanbase. Anyway this is a Evergrey's epic vocalist Tom Englund and pianist Vikram Shankar. The pair creating songs that, while not heavy, are still grand. Englund has never been afraid of a ballad, but this record really showcases his ability to hit you right in the heart.
Daniel Tompkins – Ruins
Genre: Progressive rock
Origin: Nottinghamshire, England
Label: Kscope
TesseracT's Daniel Tompkins dropped his debut solo record Castles in 2019. The record may have rubbed some people the wrong way as it was more of a pop record. On Ruins has Tompkins re-approaching on those songs in new, and often heavier ways. The songs have new names, so it might be fun to figure out which songs are which then A/B them with the first versions. Fans of TesseracT will probably dig these versions more.

Children Of Technology – Written Destiny
Genre: Thrash/punk
Origin: Padua, Italy
Label: Hells Headbangers
Buy now on Bandcamp
Written Destiny is a record for fans of old school thrash and sci-fi. The band's third album is a thirty-three minute lo-fi soundtrack to the post-apocalypse. This is a fun one for fans of Discharge and the likes.
Grayceon – Mothers Weavers Vultures
Genre: Progressive metal
Origin: San Francisco, California
Label: Translation Loss Records
One of the Bay Area's best kept secrets has returned with five tracks of cello-driven progressive sludge. Mothers Weavers Vultures is an album that would serve as a perfect introduction to Grayceon. It includes all forms of the band with long slow songs, technical explosions, and beauty throughout. It's a shame that this didn't hit more people's ears sooner as I could see it on a number of album of the year lists.

Wombbath – Tales Of Madness
Genre: Death metal/experimental
Origin: Sala, Sweden
Label: Transcending Obscurity
Ending this week (or rather pair of weeks) and this year (WEIRD) with some nightmare inducing death metal. Tales of Madness really does sound like death metal with a heavy dose of insanity. The production itself sounds deliberately weird, so when a death metal song breaks into an orchestral piece it's more jarring than one might expect. There's a lot going on here.
