Deep Purple – Infinite
Genre: Heavy metal
Origin: Hertford, England
Label: earMusic

Infinite is Deep Purple's twentieth album in their almost fifty years of existence, and it seems like it's shaping up to be their last. Ian Gillian still has pipes and the rest of the band, a majority of which have been involved since the sixties, are no slouches either. This is the quintessential dad rock album of the year, and that's not a slam. My dad loves Deep Purple, and I love Deep Purple because of my dad.

Ecstatic Vision – Raw Rock Fury
Genre: "Troglodyte Rock"
Origin: Philadelphia
Label: Relapse

This album is fuzz. Fuzzed out guitars. Fuzzed out bass. Fuzzed out vocals. Hell, even the drums seem fuzzy. Doug from A Life Once Lost sure loves himself some fuzz.

Krokus – Big Rocks
Genre: Heavy metal
Origin: Solothurn, Switzerland
Label: Century Media

Krokus are going the route of so many bands before them and dropping a covers record. The cover a rather diverse collection of early hard rock artists ranging from Neil Young and Led Zeppelin to The Animals and Eddie Cochran. The guitar work is pretty great through these covers.

The Obsessed – Sacred
Genre: Doom
Origin: Maryland
Label: Relapse

Lots of old dudes dropping big records in this Weekly Injection. Weird. Anyway, Wino and his band of doom OG's are bringing old school heavy riffs on the band's (well, Wino's first album under "The Obsessed" banner) since 1994. Seems like a more upbeat version of what I'd expect from the scene.

Royal Thunder – Wick
Genre: Doom/Hard rock
Origin: Atlanta, Georgia
Label: Spinefarm
Buy now on Amazon.com
One of my favorite bands of the last few decades is back with a new record that is taking them in yet another different direction. While not as much of a departure as Crooked Doors was from CVI, this is still a band stretching their creative boundaries in a great way. Mlny just continues to show why she's one of the greatest voices in heavy music today with this record.

Ulver – The Assassination Of Julius Caesar
Genre: Avant-garde/Electronic
Origin: Oslo, Norway
Label: House Of Mythology Records
Buy now on Amazon.com
The little I've heard from this album is closer to Depeche Mode than your usual grim Norwegian bands. The band has been going down this path for a while, but this seems like their most 80's effort. It's pretty interesting.

Wear Your Wounds – WYM
Genre: Experimental
Origin: Essex, Massachusetts
Label: Deathwish
Buy now on Amazon.com
This is Jacob from Converge's outlet for non-Converge music. There is some heaviness here, but it is completely devoid of the chaos. he's known for. Wear Your Wounds is slower, more atmospheric, and prettier. I frankly prefer this, but it does sound like a completely different mind is behind it.
