Honeymoon Disease – The Transcendence
Genre: Rock
Origin: Gothenburg, Sweden
Label: Napalm

This is simply fun rock n roll, in line with a Joan Jett, a Pat Benetar and the likes. Certainly in the throwback, nostalgia rock n roll scene, but one of great quality.

Our Oceans – Our Oceans
Genre: Progressive/Post-rock
Origin: Netherlands
Label: Self

This is a really cool record that isn't metal, but is metal-adjacent. It features former members of Cynic, so there is a prog lean to it. The sound overall is more atmospheric. I haven't heard much like this band, actually. I approve highly. (Dropped Sunday or something, but still this week. So there.)

Paradise Lost – Symphony For The Lost DVD/CD
Genre: Doom/Gothic metal
Origin: Halifax, England
Label: Century Media
Buy now on Amazon.com
With this release Paradise Lost became another band to release a live record with a symphony. Tracks like "Tragic Idol," "Erased," and many more reach a new level of doomy epicness on this release. This would serve as a pretty good launch point for those unfamiliar with the band. There's a bit of everything here from them.

Solution .45 – Nightmares In The Waking State: Part 1
Genre: Melodic Death metal
Origin: Skövde, Sweden
Label: AFM

I was on board for this band's first record For Aeons Past, and this second album continues what worked for them there. This is pretty similar to mid-era Soilwork or Scar Symmetry, but has just enough other stuff going on to differentiate them from being just another clone. I'm already looking forward to Part 2, so get on it fellas.

Turbid North – Eyes Alive
Genre: Death metal
Origin: North Pole, Alaska/Fort Worth, Texas
Label: The Pyramid
Buy now on iTunes
Calling this band "death metal" doesn't seem like enough. This band as some sludge elements, progressive rhythms, straight up heavy metal guitar frettery, and some chaotic hardcore madness tossed it. A really solid band for those looking for a lot of different shit at once.
