THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SUMAC, VALE OF PNATH, and More Out Today – 6/10

This edition includes lots of blues-based rockin', some technical madness, post-metal giants and more! To the metals…

Motörhead – Clean Your Clock 61bwIy-F4wL

Genre: Heavy metal
Origin: London, England
Label: UDR

Buy now on Amazon.com

There hasn't been a lot of variety between live Motorhead releases. However, this one is the the final hurrah of a metal legend, so it felt important as a fan to look past the setlist. This was taken from their final tour before Lemmy's death. It features all the songs you'd want like "Bomber," "Overkill," "No Class," and more. A sad viewing as Lemmy already isn't doing so great. Still, long live Motorhead.

Rival Sons – Hollow Bones 51HmqZVQunL

Genre: Blues rock
Origin: Long Beach, California
Label: Earache

Buy now on Amazon.com

I saw these guys open for Black Sabbath on The End tour a few months back, and they killed it. Their sound is somewhere between Led Zeppelin, Black Keys, and White Stripes. A very cool band that'll probably go places if the throwback rock bubble doesn't burst first.

Scorpion Child – Acid Roulette 81TAzHEbwwL._SL1200_

Genre: Stoner/blues
Origin: Austin, Texas
Label: Nuclear Blast

Buy now on Amazon.com

Another band just bringing the rock with classic flair. This release would pair well with Rival Sons' latest, however Scorpion Child are heavier. This is also the smokier of the two releases.

Sumac – What One Becomes 71nx4ep8HSL._SL1200_

Genre: Post-metal/Sludge
Origin: Vancouver, Canada/Vashon, Washington
Label: Thrill Jockey

Buy now on Amazon.com

Aaron Tuner (ex-Isis) and friends wasted no time after last year's stellar sludgy debut, The Deal, and are back with a solid follow-up. This record, like the last, is dark, heavy as fuck, and oddly calming. Sumac are quickly becoming another post-metal juggernaut.

Vale Of Pnath – II ValeOfPnathII

Genre: Technical death metal
Origin: Denver, Colorado
Label: Willowtip

Ending this week with some lovely Rocky Mountain tech-death. With new members in tow, Vale of Pnath are upping their game and are poised for greatness. If you dug the older stuff, the new shit is about to make you fall harder in love all over again. Sweet, techy love.

Reviews

"It's refreshing to hear a band operate within a musical sphere that's decidedly off the deep end with this much clarity of purpose."
