This edition goes out to everyone that complains I don't talk about heavy bands. Our final Weekly Injection of October includes some sludge, blackened metal insanity, death metal insanity, and more. To the metals…
Avenged Sevenfold – The Stage
Genre: Heavy metal, metalcore
Origin: Orange County, California
Label: Capitol Records
Buy now on Amazon.com
Avenged Sevenfold surprised everybody with the quick release of their seventh studio album, The Stage. This one's about artificial intelligence and even features a cameo from Neil deGrasse Tyson. I haven't listened to the album yet, but the single is pretty decent…

Anaal Nathrakh – The Whole Of The Law
Genre: Blackened industrial/grindcore
Origin: Birmingham, England
Label: Metal Blade
Buy now on Amazon.com
The first time I heard Anaal Nathrakh I thought they were the most intense band I'd ever heard. That was around the release of In the Constellation of the Black Widow and five albums later I still think that they're the most intense band I've ever heard. This is another great album of dark, epic, heavy, crazy metal unlike anyone else.

Crowbar – The Serpent Only Lies
Genre: Sludge
Origin: New Orleans, Louisiana
Label: eOne
Buy now on Amazon.com
The long-running sludge masters have returned to, once again, stomp through your eardrums. This marks the return of bassist Todd "Sexy T." Strange making the band's bald to not-bald ratio even once again. So if you fell off around the time of Equilibrium, now is your time to return to this band since balance has been restored.

Serpentine Dominion – Serpentine Dominion
Genre: Melodic death metal
Origin: Florida/Massachusetts/Virginia
Label: Metal Blade
Buy now on Amazon.com
I was surprised to find myself loving this album so much. I respect Cannibal Corpse a lot, but I can't say that I'm a fan. Hearing Corpsegrinder go back and forth with Adam D's unmistakable Killswitch Engage-esque sections wasn't something I thought I'd hear. It works so well. This album showcases all these musicians in arenas where they should be to be out of place in. This album is twenty-six minutes of greatness.

Testament – The Brotherhood Of The Snake
Genre: Thrash
Origin: Oakland, California
Label: Nuclear Blast
Buy now on Amazon.com
This recent-era Testament just continues to kill it, and shows no signs of stopping. Ever since The Formation of Damnation these guys have just been further cementing themselves as one of the thrash sub-genre's greats. They even manage to stray from the thrash formula with really melodic sections, death metal bits, and even some quasi-hardcore breakdown moments without feeling shoehorned in or alienating.

Whores. – Gold.
Genre: Sludge/noise
Origin: Atlanta, Georgia
Label: eOne)
Buy now on Amazon.com
This was a fun one to Google for this. Just kept finding shiny scantly clad people. Anyway, Gold. is a noisy, fuzzy, good time. It's like Melvins and Ken Mode combined to form an erratic lovechild.

Ulcerate – Shrines Of Paralysis
Genre: Technical death metal
Origin: Auckland, New Zealand
Label: Relapse
Buy now on Amazon.com
Ending this heavy week in a heavy way. This album is eight lengthy death metal tracks that pull in atmospheric black metal, post rock, and progressive influences. It's rare that a band drops their best album five records in, but that's what Ulcerate has done with Shrines of Paralysis.
