X Japan's recent Coachella performance was incredible. The band featured Marilyn Manson for a song, had Limp Bizkit's Wes Borland fill in as the guitarist, and had holograms of former members Hide (who passed in 1998) and Taiji (who passed in 2011) as part of their show as well. It was also the band's reunion with drummer Yoshiki, who bowed out of X Japan's live performances in May 2017 after emergency surgery to replace a cervical vertebral disc.
As a part of the Coachella performance announcements leading up to the show also came the revelation that X Japan was just about done with their first album since 1996. Now in an interview with Consequence Of Sound, Yoshiki revealed that Manson collaborated with the band for a song off the coming album.
Yoshiki added that the album is out "late summer or early fall."
"I know [22 years is] a long time, but when you listen to the sound, you'll understand why it took that long. Ninety-nine percent of the songs are in English and it's our first record targeting a worldwide audience."
X Japan's next album will be its first without guitarist Hideto "Hide" Matsumoto.
