It's really no surprise these days when I hear a musician is working on something new to keep the creative juice flowing, but in the case of Kevin Hufnagel, the man just never seems to stop. With various ukelele exhibits popping up around NY and the internet, a recently released solo record, his continuous work with Dysrhythmia and Gorguts, he can also now be found in a killer new band called Vaura.
Vaura, which also features Toby Driver of Kayo Dot, is set to release their debut LP Selenelion on February 28th. The album title refers to a horizontal lunar eclipse: the moment at which the sun and the eclipsed moon can be seen at the same time. Listening to the track "Obsidian Damascene Sun" available on their bandcamp page I'd have to say that really is the perfect way to describe their sound. I'm certainly interested in hearing more, so if you're in the NYC area come hang out at one of the several shows the band has lined up. If not, check out the LP teaser below and pick up your copy on Feb 28.
