We've been posting about a new Metallica album for so long that we really ought to just open up a new subsection of the website dedicated to albums we're not sure we'll ever hear.
Fortunately, that no longer seems to be the case. Lars Ulrich gave an update to Metal Forces, revealing Metallica will be sitting down in June to really figure out exactly what the new record will be and how it'll all shape up.
"The month of June is basically when we're gonna sit down and figure what we're gonna do with it all; what we're gonna call it and what's gonna be on it … Greg Fidelman is 24/7 on this record and has been since last summer. He's doing an insanely great job and has been putting his heart and soul in it pretty much every waking moment of his life in helping us engineer and produce this record."
However, Ulrich won't confirm that the new album will be out in 2016 despite this. I guess he's just trying to be safe and cover all his bases on this one?
"If the record doesn't come out this year, then it won't be because it's not done. It will be because there's some sort of cosmic reason that it would be smarter to hold onto it until next year. But the record will be done this summer."
Previously, Lars hinted that the album could come out in the second half of 2016. We know the band has been physically recording the album since at least November, so new Metallica either this year or next year, but it's coming… for sure this time.
