We're all eagerly anticipating new music from Slayer. We were hoping for a two-song EP before Mayhem Fest kicked off, but turns out that didn't happen. We already know the band is done recording two songs, and they just need to be mixed and mastered. But now, Kerry King tells Rolling Stone that an additional two songs are just missing lead guitars and vocals, and then they will be completed as well.
"If I get off my ass and start writing again on the road – since we've been in Europe, I keep trying to work on lyric ideas, maybe some leads, and fixing songs that didn't work correctly – it should be a real quick process," King told Rolling Stone
As for Jeff Hanneman, who is still recovering from a vicious spider bite, King said he hasn't been at the recent recording sessions. The band are hoping to meet up with Jeff after Mayhem to reassess where he is at with his arm.
"After Mayhem we'll reevaluate and see if he's any closer," King says. "We're planning for him to come back and the door is open, because it's his fucking gig. If he can play, Jeff Hanneman is going to fucking be here, and I'm stoked about that. I love playing with Gary, and he's doing a killer job, but if Jeff came back and said 'I'm ready,' I'll check him out to see that he's ready, and off we go."
Hanneman was not present for the recording sessions, but King is quick to mention that is the normal workflow for the band, with King recording most of the rhythm guitar, and even bass, and Hanneman coming in later to do leads.
What do you guys think? Will Hanneman be back? Are you pumped for new Slayer?
