Deftones bassist Chi Cheng passed away in 2013 after a tragic car accident in 2008 left him in a coma. Today, an announcement was made that a spoken word performance of Cheng's will be released.
Cheng performed at The Paris Cafe in Sacramento, CA in January of 2001. The resulting performance will be released as The Head Up Project. Proceeds from the sale of the release will go to Buckle Up for Chi, a seatbelt advocacy group named in Cheng’s honor. You can pre-order right here.
Deftones began recording what would be their final album with Cheng, titled Eros, back in 2008. The record, unfortunately, went unfinished due to Cheng's accident, and the whole project was ultimately shelved. After Cheng passed away, Deftones released a studio version of the song "Smile" from the record. The band eventually performed the song live.
