Aqua Teen Hunger Force originally aired on Adult Swim between 2001 and 2015. The show underwent a few name changes in its final years, including ones like Aqua Something You Know Whatever, Aqua TV Show Show, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force Forever. Now the show is back under the name Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Aquadonk Side Pieces because of course it is, and you can check out the trailer for the first episode "The Return of Handbanana" above.
"The Return of Handbanana" sees the return of the evil… "dog?" that originally surfaced in the 2006 episode "Hand Banana." Handbanana was original generated by Frylock for Meatwad in Carl's pool using the Make Your Own Dog 1.0 software, but turned out to be evil and tried to do some less-than-nice things to Carl. Handbanana was eventually killed by the police in the 2015 episode "The Greatest Story Ever Told," and now that I'm typing all of this out I'm realizing how gloriously insane this show was.
Master Shake voice actor Dana Snyder (Squidbillies, Bob's Burgers, etc.) said in an interview with RVA Mag that Adult Swim is currently working on a new Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie that picks up the gang in present day.
"The movie picks up right now, and fills you in on everything. They are not together, for reasons I will not divulge," said Snyder. "They do the classic 'We've got to get the band back together.'"
"During COVID, for a while we were the only ones working," he added later in the interview. "When lockdown happened, I had started a new show, The Ghost and Molly McGee, where I play the ghost. It's fantastic. Disney sent a big box of equipment, and I hooked it up and we've been doing everything remotely now. The only thing I've gone into the studio to do, I've been in to record the Aqua Teen movie, I went in in New York to record a Squidbillies episode, and I went in to record a Christmas special. As long as I have internet, it doesn't matter where I am. It's great."
