CAVE IN Stream Video For Haunting TOWNES VAN ZANDT Cover Off New Tribute LP

Songs of Townes Van Zandt Vol III is out now.

Cave In have just released a chilling new promo video for their cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “The Hole,” which is sinister and as faithful as can be to the late songwriter's ominous intent. The track is just one of the many great tracks that are featured on Songs of Townes Van Zandt Vol III, which is available now from Neurot Recordings. The album can be purchased here and you can check out the video below.

In a brand new interview with Cult Nation, Cave In's Stephen Brodsky gleefully explained how he envisions Van Zandt "as the caretaker to a hidden part of Willie Nelson‘s ranch, where he tends to a compost pile of dead dreams.

"The lyrics for “The Hole” are some of the darkest that I’ve heard come from Townes. It’s something that he wrote later in his life, and in my research, I found that not much of anything existed in the way of people covering that song."

Brodsky continued by saying that, "It’s pretty clear Townes put in his time at the edge. What’s remarkable is the staggering number of visions that he was able to document there, and his transcription of the feelings it produced. It’s both a journey and a sacrifice on his part — something that I can appreciate and connect with in the music."

You can—and definitely should—read Brodsky's complete, exciting interview with Cult Nation here, where he shared his thoughts on all things Cave In, including the band's newest album.Last month, Cave In released their latest LP, Heavy Pendulum, and you can read Metal Injection's very favorable review of the album here.
