Killswitch Engage drummer Justin Foley has teamed up with Chris Lane (A Brilliant Lie) and both Gravel Kings drummer Doug French and banjoist Joey Johnson for a new, all-instrumental band called Lybica. The band is now streaming their sludgy new single "Palatial," which Foley said came together right around the same time the band's debut single "Ferment."
"These tunes were two early ones that came together when we first started jamming, so it's fitting that they're the first songs we're sharing with everyone. I think they sum up what we're all about, blending loud with soft, heavy with hooks."
Foley said the band was formed in 2020 after realizing the pandemic was going to keep him away from Killswitch Engage for a little while.
"I'd written a bunch of stuff that didn't quite fit into traditional song structures," said Foley. "And I've always been drawn to bands where the instruments provide hooks, rather than relying on a lyric. It seemed like a good time to start something new and see where it could go."
Lybica is working on their debut self-titled full length album this year. Stream "Palatial" here.
