JOURNAL Return From An Eight Year Silence With "Chrysalis Ordalias"

Prepare to have your brain broken.

Prepare to have your brain broken.

Sacramento’s Journal are as technical as they are chaotic, and somehow just as melodic. Their last album, Unlorja, combined the madness of The Dillinger Escape Plan, with the conceptual lyrical weight of Coheed and Cambria, then added in some micro references to classic video games.

For as great as Unlorja was, it was eight years ago. Fans having been obnoxiously pleading for new music for that entire time. I can include myself in that group actually (Sorry fellas). Anyway, the guys have been understandably busy with their lives like playing in other bands or having kids or having a career, but are those reasons sufficient for holding up new music? Absolutely not.

The wait is finally over.

This summer Journal are dropping their next concept-adventure, Chrysalis Ordalias. The album is a sprawling eleven track ride with vocals by Drew Winter (Shadow of the Colossus/ex-Conducting From The Grave), TJ Joubert (With Wolves), Akoni Berman, and guitarist Joe Van Houten. There is even an 160 page book telling the story.

From that album they gave us the exclusive premiere of the title track. Listen to it below and prepare to have your brain broken.

Check out their fun trailer for the record as well, and admire the physical might of Joe Van Houten.

Chrysalis Ordalias will be released July 17th.
