Back in January, the Insane Clown Posse teamed up with the ACLU to sue the FBI for listing their fans, affectionately known as juggalos as a gang in a 2011 report. The clowns solicited statements from juggalos on how they were discriminated against, and we have a few. The case was quickly dismissed before the ACLU got involved and then they filed a second suit, this time also including the Department of Justice. They requested that juggalos be taken off the noted gangs list.
Last week, after a request from the U.S. Justice department , a federal judge in Detroit dismissed the case saying the government is not responsible for acts committed by local law enforcers based on the report.
Naturally, ICP and the ACLU are planning to appeal, as Violent J so eloquently puts it:
“This is not the end — we’ll keep fighting to clear the Juggalo family name,” said Violent J, a member of ICP. “There has never been—and will never be—a music fan base quite like Juggalos, and while it is easy to fear what one does not understand, discrimination and bigotry against any group of people is just plain wrong and un-American.”
