Our hombres at MetalSucks may have worked out the best deal ever by getting Cynic frontman Paul Masvidal to write a blog for them. It's an incredibly interesting look into the man behind Cynic. Incredibly interesting that is, if you care about the band. Otherwise, it may seem like gibberish to you. In that case, this article isn't for you.
But for those of you who do love Cynic, like myself, this blog is awesome. In his latest entry, Paul blogs about creating riffs out of a bird chirping outside his window. W – T – F! Here is a sample:
The bird’s set begins with an up-tempo phrase made up of six short bars, with each bar consisting of a varied number of beats, like so:
////// ////// ///// ////// ///// //// 6 6 5 6 5 4
Needless to say, if you are into guitar wankery, you may want to read this!
