For this week’s The Core Breakdown, we take a visit to our lovely friends in the north. Here are two tracks from Canada’s very own Get The Shot (set to be featured on their upcoming record Infinite Punishment). Shout out to Canada for continuing to bring out kick ass hardcore music! They have a killer scene up there that is not to be underestimated.
Like their fellow northern brothers Obey The Brave, and our very own Hatebreed, Get The Shot come out swinging with lightning melodies and vicious speed. “Blackened Sun” rips from the get go with savage guitar work, shredding with delicious rage. Killer moments where the drums clash down meet with a large bass to create an earthquake-like scale of hardcore crunch. “Hellbringer” brings that same heft to the work, while taking a step back from the speed to bring in more of a grit to the rhythm. The song will shift at times into full blown rip roaring sections, but for the most part the structure paces itself. The progression plays out to this brutal trudge, crushing down on each beat to build tension and adrenaline.
