It’s Monday and Mondays suck, so let’s grind it out with a song premiere of Grind of the Dead's “Formless Death.”
Salisbury, MA obliterators Grind of the Dead have been quiet for the last four years. Old readers of this column might remember their crusher No Lives Matter from 2017. A straight, to-the-point grind record dripping in death. Coming up this week is the band’s latest record Formless Death and today we have the title track which is sure to put listeners in a stranglehold.
Opening with a quote on mortality from the 2008 film Synecdoche, NY, the track is quick to set a somber, sinister mood and then gets grinding. It is grindcore exactly as us blast beat addicts love it: quick, to the point, and loud.
“Formless Death” keeps the death metal influence that we heard in No Lives Matter and the track moves between punkier leaning and old school death metal. The guitar has some catchy, heavy hooks and a sweet solo brings the track home. It’s something that at once one can get their mosh on to and at another snap their necks from plenty of headbanging brutality.
The full length for Formless Death drops this Friday, March 26th. If you are new to Grind of the Dead, then grab this and grab their previous material. And get ready because Formless Death is gonna blow out your speakers. Get grinding on this!
