Hailing from Genoa, Italy, SATOR is a relatively young doom/sludge band that's beginning to make waves in the underground. Claiming influences that range from Black Sabbath to Neurosis and even some krautrock, the band sets itself apart from other sludge acts by crafting an ambience of complete and utter despair. They're not quite slow enough to considered funeral doom, but the crushing weight of the riffs garner a similar effect. Tomorrow, the band drops a new EP titled Scorching Sunlight, which consists of one 30-minute long dirge. We're stoked to bring you the exclusive premiere below.
This is seriously killer, and seriously heavy stuff. Even for a sludge band, 30 minutes is a long time, but SATOR manages to keep the dynamics of the track interesting throughout. The band says of the EP:
Scorching Sunlight was born with the idea of writing a long, complex track: always evolving and going in different directions but with a recurring main theme. A suite, of a sort, with ominous drones, slowly moving sludgy riffs, moody noisescapes and more fast paced grooves.
The lyrical concept was inspired by a trip in Iceland, been surrounded by Nature in its purest, brutal, primordial form. Humans think to be above everything on this planet, but they are just a small and insignificant event in the history of Earth. Humanity's only and inevitable destiny is to disappear: it will be erased and forgotten.
