Hey there, tech fiends. It's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.
I've got a really cool premiere for you today from Godless Truth called "Scissors." The song comes from the band's new self-titled album due out on March 4 through Transcending Obscurity Records. Before we go any further, I want to apologize for today's article being somewhat short as I'm still dealing with COVID after having it for several days now.
For those new to the band, Godless Truth is based out of the Czech Republic and has been around since 1994, though they did split up for a few years between 2012 to 2015 before reforming with a new lineup in 2016. At any rate, their upcoming self-titled album will be their first effort since 2010 and it's an interesting display of old-meets-new sort of technical death metal as is to be expected from a band who started during the original death metal wave.
Fans of Death will love what "Scissors" is all about, as will fans of Necrophagist and Suffocation, considering the song feels like a strangely fluid mix of the three groups. The killer guitar solo within its runtime is very much a Morbid Angel-inspired affair and is later followed by some Origin-style sweep picking led sections that are excellent and continue to propel the song forward in the final portion of "Scissors." The insane artwork for the Godless Truth self-titled is also very much worth mentioning because it's absolutely sick and immediately grabs your attention.
"We consider our new eponymous album Godless Truth to be a return to roots or a new start so to speak," said the band. "With a new line-up that works together as every band should – we play metal music, we like to play together, we love to create together, and we feel that we still have a lot to say with our music. The songs on this record oscillate in style from death, thrash to black metal, simply said in the music styles we love. We just continue in what Godless Truth did all the time, technical proggy death metal in the style of the '90s with a modern sound concept.
"That's why we actually chose Joe Haley of Psycroptic to mix and master our new album, something we decided to do especially after listening to their album, As The Kingdom Drowns, and we still think it was a great idea."
