Greetings tech fiends, it's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's column, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking to find even more sick bands, you can do so here.
I've got another sick premiere for you all, this time from Australian absurdly named technical brutal death metallers DeathFuckingCunt. Henceforth referred to as DFC to save time. We're premiering "Suicidal Masturbatory Flagellation" today which comes from the group's upcoming second album, Decadent Perversity out June 10 via Transcending Obscurity Records. As usual, you're welcome to immediately scroll below and click play, though you can read on if you'd like to learn more about the release and the project as a whole.
For those new to the band, DFC plays a sensory overload form of technical brutal death metal that feels like a mix of Origin and Brain Drill married to a litany of brutal influences ranging from Defeated Sanity, Suffocation, and Abysmal Torment as cited by their label. While it would be easy to wrongly judge a book by its cover with DFC, the truth is they write some fantastic and chaotic music as I found out when I covered their first album, Ungodly Violation back in 2014 over at No Clean Singing.
The band's line-up alone proves their mettle, with bassist Brad Trevasks and drummer Dan Grainger also members in well-known act Wardaemonic (Transcending Obscurity Records) along with vocalist Blake Simpson and Dan also playing integral roles in the beloved Willowtip Records act, Beyond Terror Beyond Grace. The band's guitarist, Ollie Morgan kills it on their new album and is well known as a member of tech brutal death legends Viraemia among other projects he is a part of.
So with that introduction in mind, let's dive into what "Suicidal Masturbatory Flagellation" is all about. That's a pretty odd song title yet according to the band, "The song 'Suicidal Masturbatory Flagellation' is an homage to a young man who masturbated himself to death in Brazil circa 2011. It was one the first songs written for the new album, and we feel it represents a great cross-section of our songwriting and it a great introduction to the band for the uninitiated – a thrillingly brutal gut-punch of ridiculousness."
Moving beyond the amusing thematic focus on "Suicidal Masturbatory Flagellation", the musical meat and bones of the song are built on a foundation that would make Deeds of Flesh and Suffocation extremely proud. This is a heavy and brutal song mostly, it's not until halfway through the song that things switch gears and focus on Origin-style shredding. I can see why this song was picked as a single because it's a well-written example of DFC's ability to mix and blend a number of different influences together in a fluid way.
At the end of the day, I signed up to help based on the strength of the music, not the band's name. While it may be divisive, I'm not certain it's meant to be taken seriously so take that for what it's worth. So be sure to check out "Suicidal Masturbatory Flagellation" below. If you like the song, pre-orders for Decadent Perversity can be placed here.
