Watch: METALLICA's JAMES HETFIELD Gets Emotional On Stage Talking About Anxiety & Feeling Like He "Can't Play Anymore"

Completely untrue – James Hetfield is unstoppable.

Hetfield Speech

Metallica's James Hetfield took a moment during the band's show at Estádio do Mineirão in Belo Horizonte on May 12 to address his recent anxieties. Before launching into "Sad But True," Hetfield said he wasn't feeling great about hitting the stage and added he's been feeling like "an old guy" who "can't play anymore." Which definitely isn't true – if what Hetfield does qualifies as not being able to play, then the rest of us sure as hell can't play either.

"I've gotta tell you I wasn't feeling very good before I came out here," said Hetfield as transcribed by Blabbermouth. "[I was] feeling a little bit insecure, like I'm an old guy, [I] can't play anymore — all this bullshit that I tell myself in my head. So I talked to these guys, and they helped me — as simple as that. They gave me a hug and said, 'Hey, if you're struggling on stage, we've got your back.' And I tell you, it means the world to me."

The rest of Metallica then gave Hetfield a hug, before he closed out saying "And seeing you out there, I… I am not alone. I am not alone, and neither are you." The last part of Hetfield's sentiment is extremely, extremely important to remember – you're never alone, and people do care about you. Watch the full video of the speech below and try not to get emotional alongside Hetfield.
