The estate of Cliff Burton and KnuckleBonz, Inc. have teamed up for a brand new limited-edition statue alongside a new beer called the Cliff Burton (Cliff 'Em All) IPA Beer. A portion of the proceeds from both will go to the Cliff Burton Music Scholarship Foundation. The Cliff Burton (Cliff 'Em All) IPA Beer is a 6.4% ABV beer brewed by Calicraft Brewing Co. available here.
"Continuing the mission of Cliff's father, the late Ray Burton, the Cliff Burton Foundation is centered on fostering the next generation of musical talent," said the Burton family. "We handpick young individuals from around the world with the same enthusiasm for music and dedication to their craft as the late bassist Cliff Burton had. Cheers to Cliff and Ray Burton who loved a good beer."
I guess ultimately this kinda falls under the category of "you're either gonna want to collect this as a Metallica fan or you're gonna be annoyed at the branding opportunity." Personally, I'm falling a little more under the latter than the former. It's nice to see Burton memorialized, and it's nice that both the beer and the statue are for a good cause, but what does the beer really have to do with Burton's legacy?
