As sponsors of NYC's No Mercy Metal Showcase I naturally made my way down to check out a slew of local acts for a special Halloween edition on October 30th at Crash Mansion. There were ghouls, goblins, scary clowns and cute girls, but quite possibly the scariest of them all was the band Alekhine's Gun.
They weren't wearing costumes, but they pumped out a raging set of hate filled tunes along with an impressive cover of Sepultura's "Arise" that would even make Max Cavalera grin in approval. Although still a brand new band on the scene with only a couple gigs under their belt to date, you wouldn't know it judging by their comfort to perform on stage. The band is fronted by bad ass Lucky 13 bartender, Jessica Pimentel, who is as ferocious, loud and outward as they come. Combined with talented musicians all around, Alekhine's Gun should have no problem raising heads in the scene this upcoming year. Check out their demo track "Bardo" above.
