Crank up some great metal to celebrate the 31st birthday of Trivium's Matt Heafy.

For half of his life, Matt Heafy has brought his immense talent to stages around the world. As guitarist and vocalist for Trivium, he’s established himself as one of the premier musicians in the heavy metal world today. Since their debut album Ember to Inferno, Matt and company have given us plenty of amazing music for almost two decades. They continue to innovate and impress with each album, as shown in their latest video for the track "Dead and Gone" from their most recent release Silence in the Snow.

No one can deny that Matt’s got one hell of a scream. From the growls on tracks like "In Waves" to his screams on "A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation", he commands an intensity few can rival. Perhaps only more impressive than the ferocity of his screams are his melodious clean vocals. Balancing raw aggression with measured restraint, most of Trivium’s tracks feature his impressive vocal reach. The acoustic versions of "Built to Fall" and "Dying in Your Arms" are great, but if you want to see his full range showcased, listen to some of the covers he’s done. His renditions of "Black Hole Sun", "Hurt", "In Dreams" and "Can’t Help Falling In Love" are excellent. One of his best, however, is without a doubt Opeth’s "Harvest".

Signed to Roadrunner for the majority of their career, Trivium have found themselves among excellent company. Who wouldn’t want to share a label with the likes of Lamb of God, Black Label Society, Dream Theater, and Cradle Of Filth? With so many amazing bands under one roof, Roadrunner pooled together some of the best musicians on the label and released The All-Star Sessions in 2005. Heafy was chosen as one of the four “team captains” to help produce the album. Heafy contributed music to three of the songs, taking on vocal duties for “The End” which featured Logan Mader of Machine Head, Nadja Peulen of Coal Chamber, Dino Cazares of Fear Factory, Rhys Fulber of Front Line Assembly, and Roy Mayorga of Soulfly.

Although the dynamic front-man has established himself as a world-class artist, he doesn’t hog the spotlight. Along with the Roadrunner United and Metal Allegiance collaborations, he’s also contributed his talents as a guest vocalist on a number of other tracks. His voice can be heard supporting Mindscar’s "Asmodeus", Caliban’s "Falling Downwards" and three tracks on Dragonforce’s Maximum Overload, to name a few. Check him out in this Any Given Day video "Arise".

Matt Heafy has had an outstanding career so far. He’s played with some of his biggest influences on the Metal Allegiance record. He’s jumped in for live performances with Metallica, Volbeat and Korn. His work with Trivium has earned them accolades including two Kerrang! awards and a Metal Hammer Golden God award. At such a young age, Heafy has achieved so much; the future should only see him reach even higher levels of success. From all of his fans at Metal Injection and across the world, we thank Matt Heafy for the many years of metal and wish him a happy birthday!
