Does your coffee table look a little bare? You might want to spruce it up with a new heavy metal coffee book, Hellraisers: A Complete Visual History of Heavy Metal Mayhem. The book is written by two dudes who know quite a bit about metal and spent a good amount of time researching the topic: MetalSucks co-founder Axl Rosenberg and Chris Krovatin, who writes for outlets like Rolling Stone, Revolver and for MetalSucks under the pseudonym Emperor Rhombus. Also, the super-snazzy cover art is by renowned artist Mark Riddick and the foreward is written by Trivium frontman Matt Heafy.
We are very excited to bring you a first look inside the book. The book tackles the history of the genre and breaks down all the subgenres and discusses who the "Big Four" of each subgenre might be. We thought it would be fun to take a look at Chapter 10, Deathcore and Djent – with four bands who we feel are a big part of Metal Injection history: The Red Chord, Suicide Silence, Periphery and Animals As Leaders. Take a look at the sample below. You can click on each page to see a higher-res version so that you can actually read what's going on.
