Lady Gaga's metal fandom has been well documented in the past. She's said Iron Maiden changed her life, lounges in Anthrax shirts was spotted at a SXSW metal show, so the girl's cred is intact.
In a recent interview with CF Fashion Book, Gaga said she would rather be the next Iron Maiden than the next Madonna saying:
“They’re one of the greatest rock bands in history, in my opinion.” She went on, “Some people really don’t know the importance of metal and the scope of it. Those guys were filling stadiums, and they still are. And it’s because of the culture of the music, the poetry that’s so powerful, that whenever the fans come together, they unite in the essence of what Iron Maiden is all about. I always used to say to people, when they would say, ‘Oh, she’s the next Madonna.’ No, I’m the next Iron Maiden.”
Because metal fans are allergic to any sort of pop-star recognition, I'm sure they'll throw a shit show over what she said, but really it makes sense. She's giving the band a huge compliment in that they have longevity and a devoted fanbase who stuck with them, whereas she is saying Madonna's fan base is a bit more fickle.
Gaga took it up a notch by tweeting the band the above photo and the band responded in kind:
