This is a very bittersweet week here at Metal Injection. While we had some laughs, we dealt with the tragic loss of GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot. RIP Cory! Hope your family is doing well. Here are this week's top stories:
As we just mentioned, no story is bigger than the loss of GWAR guitarist, Cory Smoot, aka Flattus Maximus. Cory was found in his bunk yesterday, with no cause of death known. Today, frontman Dave Brockie released a statement saying the band has decided to continue on the tour, but will retire the character of Flattus in tribute to Cory.
While any other story pales in comparison to the tragedy in the Gwar camp, fellow Richmond natives Lamb of God announced that Resolution will be the title of their new album, which will see a 1/24/12 release. The band also posted a short but sweet song teaser.
We called out Phil Labonte for his homophobic slurs, and in response Lebonte says he's not a homophobe because he has gay friends. We've decided to stop using the term "faggot" and instead use "Labonte", for example: "You're not coming out to the bar tonight? Quit being such a Labonte"
A lot of new music videos came out this week! Check out new clips from MEGADETH, PROTEST THE HERO, ICED EARTH , VALLENFYRE , IN FLAMES, DEAD BY WEDNESDAY, BURY YOUR DEAD, ARCHITECTS, VILDHJARTA.
We concluded our coverage of CMJ with our full video wrap up as well as new live footage of KVELERTAK and SKELETONWITCH.
We announced the winners of our Abysmal Dawn video creation contest, as well as The Acacia Strain God Damn Halloween Costume Contest
Frank interviewed Brooklyn experimental death metal act KRALLICE.
In Metallica/Lou Reed news, we reviewed Lulu consicely, Reed said Metallica fans want to kill him and we were disappointed to learn that Darren Aronofsky is going to direct a music video for them.
We were very happy to hear that Decapitated survived a plane crash landing.
Finally, we added a ton of photos to our massive photo gallery including new snaps of Decapitated, Dragonforce, Firewind, 1349 and many more.
That's all for this week. Don't forget to tune in to the RIP a Livecast this Sunday night for an all new episode, starting at 7pm eastern.
