At this point, the only value in the Misfits brand is the merchandising. Without Danzig or Doyle, the touring version of the Misfits is basically a joke. I think it's Jerry Only, one of the old singers of Black Flag, Dez maybe, and one of the Ramones on drums. It's not good.
In 1993, Danzig called somewhat of a truce with Only, signing an agreement that Jerry can tour under the moniker as long as they would share in the licensing cash for the Misfits name. Danzig established his own name and career, so what does he care if Only still tours as a legacy act?
But, according to Danzig and a new suit filed last month, Only isn't holding up his end of the bargain. Danzig claims that Only registered the Misfits name and iconic logo as a trademark in 2000 with consulting with Danzig. He claims Only signed many lucrative merchandising deals to slap the Misfits name on basically everything and Danzig never got a cut.
According to Misfits expert Dan Ozzi at Noisey, Danzig even had time to include a not-so-subtle dig towards Only in the suit writing “After forming the band, Danzig replaced the original bass player with Caiafa, whose primary qualification was that he had recently received a bass guitar for Christmas.”
BURN!
It looks like Danzig has a pretty solid case here. Hot Topic has like three pages of various Misfits merch and it was Danzig's legwork in the 80s that established that brand and he should be entitled to a cut.
