GHOST, MAYHEM & MELVINS Vinyls Among 30 Most Expensive Items Sold On Discogs List For August

All three were over $1,000.

All three were over $1,000.

Vinyl! It's extremely popular these days, but miss out on some limited edition box set or reissue and you're instantly looking at three or four figures to pick it up used. It sucks. Discogs generally compiles the most expensive items sold on their website each month, and for August that list happened to include three pretty well-known metal bands.

Coming in #25 for August was Ghost's pre-Opus Eponymous 7" Elizabeth / Death Knell out on Iron Pegasus Records, which sold for $1,315. It was the red copy too, of which there were only 50 printed.

Coming in at a not-so-distant #21 is the Melvins' Endless Residency box set. There were only 100 of the box set made, which houses 8 LPs containing the band's live performances of their Bullhead, Houdini, Stoner Witch and Lysol / Eggnog albums. The box set sold for a very reasonable $1,395.

Then at #15 on the list was the 1987 Posercorpse Music pressing of Mayhem's Deathcrush EP. The EP sold for $1,500, but has previously gone for $1,906.90. The Posercorpse Music pressing of the EP is the original and would not be pressed again until 1993.

If you're wondering, the most expensive vinyl sold in August was a rare red Japanese promo copy of Pink Floyd's Ummagumma album. It sold for $13,953 (not a typo).
