Ratings for award shows during pandemic times aren't what they used to be. Last night's Grammy Awards telecast ended up hitting an all-time low.
The ceremony, which was broadcasted on CBS and hosted by The Daily Show's Trevor Noah, was viewed by 8.8 million people this year, with a 1.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic.
According to Deadline, the 2020 show, which was hosted by Alicia Fox, was viewed by 18.7 million viewers in the final and time-zone-adjusted data, and got a 5.4 rating in the 18 – 49 demographic. The show was down 52% in overall viewers, and 60% in the coveted demographic.
The lowest rating Grammys got prior to this year was the 2006 ceremony, which received 17 million viewers.
The good news is that the viewership number is the highest for any award show held in the pandemic era. The Golden Globes only scored 6.9 million viewers, a record low, and the Emmys got 6.1 million.
So for all the folks that were upset about the lack of tribute to Eddie Van Halen, it looks like not too many people would've seen it anyway.
