Have you all heard of this Metallica band? Apparently they're pretty popular. So popular, in fact, that folks around the world streamed their music for a collective 99.3 million hours throughout 2020. That's 1.1 billion streams across 53.3 million listeners located in 92 countries.
"We thought last year’s numbers were insane… you guys have outdone yourselves!" said the band. "99.3M hours?! That’s like if someone started listening on October 27, 9318 B.C. and never stopped. Can anyone guess what this year’s most played song was, clocking in at 128.6M streams??
"You remain the most dedicated fans in the world – thank you for spending so much of your year with us!"
As for the future of Metallica, drummer Lars Ulrich recently revealed they're neck deep in writing new material. Both guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo called the new material "very collaborative", adding that they've got quite a lot of new music to sort through.
