Buying Pro Tools will run you about $700. That doesn't include any of the plug ins, upgrades to your computer to make things run smoothly, extraneous recording equipment, etc. Just the program and you're automatically out $700. So what if I told you that Avid Technology would give you the program for free?
I should say they will give you the program for free. The website where you can download the free version says "soon." The free version will obviously be scaled down a bit with four track inputs instead of eight and takes away the ability to export to iTunes and Soundcloud… which seems like a hell of a function to drop. The free version seems like it's more of a learning tool for those thinking about taking the financial dive, and at the very least your projects can be saved and opened later on the real version!
