RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Raise Over $3,000,000 With "Charity Pricing" Model For Tickets

Some fans might be pissed, but a lot of money was raise for good causes.

Rage Against the Machine finally announced their highly anticipated reunion tour and tickets went on sale this week. Fans trying to obtain tickets through Ticketmaster's complicated new waiting line system found themselves sitting in a queue for a long time and then when most finally got in, most of the tickets were snatched up. There were scattered seats available, but they were selling for about $400 – $700. Fans couldn't comprehend how Rage could pull such a move.

In actuality, what Rage was trying to do was combat ticket scalpers. Rage announced that they would be “holding in reserve 10% of the seating (random seats throughout each venue) to sell at a higher ticket price (but low enough to undercut the scalpers). We will donate 100% OF THE MONEY over the base ticket price to charities and activist organizations IN EACH CITY.” Fans didn't seem to get the memo and assumed that Rage themselves were trying to pull one over on them.

Tom Morello took to Twitter to try to dispel some of the rumors. Morello clarified in a tweet "The MOST expensive ticket for ANY Rage Against The Machine/Run the Jewels headline show is $125 US (plus service fees) with the exception of CHARITY tickets where 100% of the additional proceeds go to charity. ANY other ticket at ANY other price is from SCALPERS."

To be clear, if you are looking at the official Rage listings on Ticketmaster, and the only tickets available are over $125, that means standard tickets are all sold out. The only tickets left are these charity tickets, with all funds above the standard $125 price to be donated. They are doing this to undercut scalping, which would mark those same seats at higher prices with no money going to charity.

And it paid off big time. Morello revealed they have raised over a million dollars so far.

So far we have been able to block approx 85% of scalpers trying to buy tickets and in one day have raised over $1,000,000 for charity. Still, annoying scalpers (and misinformation) remain. We appreciate the overwhelming demand and are discussing next steps to ensure more of you will be able to come and see us.

With that said, it does seem like a good amount of tickets are still available on the resale market. If you missed your chance, and money is no option, here are the links to go hunting, if you so choose.
