Like 'em or not, Slayer has had a more illustrious career than most bands will even have an eighth of. So when guitarist Kerry King gives advice on how to succeed as a young band, you might want to take a listen.
King tells Full Metal Jackie that his top advice is basically for young bands to be perfect on stage and not to let up on trying to get famous. Or to put it in King's words, he'd be laughing at you too if you sucked on stage.
"Don't give them a chance to yell at you. Especially if you are a new band. If you are a new band, don't take any breaks. Just go. I mean, Lamb of God is established, Behemoth is established, they're fine.
"There certainly have been bands that shouldn't have opened for us. It's just booking agents having these harebrained ideas that sometimes work and sometimes do not work. That's when you run into issues.
"Slayer fans are vocal, they'll they like and don't like, for sure! And I think they should. If I was in the crowd it would be the same thing."
So there you have it! Don't be stupid, practice hard, and don't stop touring… unless you're deep in the red financially. Then you might want to sit back and reevaluate.
