We know that Spotify is becoming increasingly popular for music lovers around the globe. So popular that, according to Spotify's director of economics Will Page during the Music Biz Conference in Nashville last week, the service is responsible for literally 10-percent of of all U.S. record label revenue in the first quarter of 2015.
That… seems a little high? Considering the payout of services like Spotify, it just seems like a very high number. Hypebot, who posted the information, also says the claim is not fully backed up by data. On the flip side of that argument, streaming music is more popular now than it ever has been before, so the claim might not actually be that far off the mark.
Seriously- for the first time ever in 2014 streaming music was the high revenue source it has ever been. So we'll see how this plays out.
