We love it when a musician ranks his own records. We've already seen rankings from Korn, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage and Between the Buried and Me and today we learn what Bill Steer of Carcass thinks of his band's discography.
Noisey spoke to Steer, who didn't offer too many surprises in his list:
06. Reek of Putrefaction (1988)
05. Swansong (1996)
04. Symphonies of Sickness (1989)
03. Necroticism: Descanting The Insalubrious (1991)
02. Heartwork (1996)
01. Surgical Steel (2013)
It's interesting that Swansong isn't ranked as their worst, as that album was released right before they broke up (and in my opinion is pretty underrated). Steer notes things were not good for the band at the time and he could see the writing on the wall. Even with that, there are still some songs on that album that he's fond of:
On that record, there are some tunes I'm very fond of, even though the vibes around the recording are way worse than anything else we did. Our first album, like I said, is a crazy sounding record and not what we wanted, but we were young people having a lot of fun. With Swansong, that period was just a bit less fun.
Steer notes that 1998's Symphonies of Sickness "was when the band really started."
