Not to be outdone by Tim Lambesis, AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been arrested in New Zealand. Rudd was picked up for attempting to get two people killed, as well as possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.
Rolling Stone said the drug charges stem from a police raid on his home in Tauranga, New Zealand. The 60-year-old appeared in court today and was released on bond. He is set to appear in court again on November 27.
If convicted under New Zealand law, he could face up to ten years in prison.
AC/DC commented on the arrest and tried to distance themselves from the situation:
"We've only become aware of Phil's arrest as the news was breaking. We have no further comment. Phil’s absence will not affect the release of our new album Rock or Bust and upcoming tour next year."
Last month, the band curiously released a new promo picture, with Rudd noticeably absent. The drummer was also absent from the band's last two video shoots. So perhaps they had to have some clue as to Rudd's downward spiral.
More as this develops. Update: The charges of procuring murder have been dropped.
