This is probably the most insane story we've had in a while, so buckle up.
The New York Mets recently had a series of home games against the Atlanta Braves, and 47-year-old Nelson Hidalgo was stoked. Not so much about going to the game, but to park his van at the intersection of 127th Street and 35th Avenue at 10:45 p.m. and just start crankin' the fuckin' tunes, man. Mind you, Hidalgo's van has 80 speakers installed in it, or over $20,000 worth of speakers, according to AMNY's report.
If you're familiar with Citi Field at all, you know that that intersection is right next to one of the stadium's bullpens, and the Mets were having none of that shit. Maybe because they were losing (and lost), maybe because they hated whatever Hidalgo was playing, they called the cops.
This is the point where Hidalgo utters possibly one of the best quotes we've ever had the pleasure to post.
“I spent over $20 grand on this equipment,” Hidalgo allegedly told police that night, according to court records. “I know it’s illegal, but it’s the weekend."
“How come I don’t get a ticket this time?” he added. “I usually get a ticket or it gets thrown out; or I pay a little fee.”
Seriously, next time you do anything stupid, please just tell law enforcement "I know it’s illegal, but it’s the weekend." It's the greatest excuse of all time.
Hidalgo was arrested, charged with second-degree criminal nuisance, general noise prohibition, disorderly conduct, and obstructing the driver's view, and will appear in court on August 1, where he will presumably tell the judge "sorry I was late, it's tough getting around when you have 12 ton balls of steel between your legs."
