Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee has given his endorsement to the coming Pam & Tommy series for Hulu. The series, starring Sebastian Stan and Lily James, tells the story of Lee and Pamela Anderson's famous sex tape. According to Lee in an interview with ET, it's a "really beautiful story" that explores the concept of privacy and how things got out of control.
"I know Sebastian; he's playing me," said Lee. "And from what he's told me, it's a really beautiful story. I think a lot of people would think that it's one thing, but it's really about privacy and how things got crazy then. And there's different laws now. The story's actually cool. What actually happened wasn't, but he told me it's pretty wild."
Lee later added that "it's a cool story, and people need to know." Lee previously stated in Mötley Crüe's 2001 autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band that the tape leaked after someone working on his house found it and sold it.
While Pamela Anderson has not officially commented, it is believed she is not for the series being produced. A few weeks ago, Courtney Love posted "I find this so fucking outrageous," including a photo of an article about the series.
She continued "When Pam / Tommy sex tape was out, myself [and former Hole members Patty Schemel and Melissa Auf der Maur] were making a record [Celebrity Skin]. And the lone women in many recording studios in LA. Where all / ALL! The staff engineers / producers / owners / were watching the sex tape with huge schadenfraude.. Guffaws, It was disgusting. I banned anyone discussing it.. It destroyed my friend Pamelas life. Utterly."
Love noted producers reached out to use a likeness of her in the film for a magazine cover but Love refused. She concluded"My heart goes out to Pammy ♥️♥️ further causing her complex trauma. And shame on Lily James whoever the fuck she is. #vile"
